Hartford Grantees in NY Times on Common Treatments Geriatricians Should Avoid

Hartford grantee the American Geriatrics Society and Beeson scholar Dr. Sei Lee of the University of California, San Francisco, were recently highlighted in Paula Span’s The New Old Age Blog for their work in developing a list of common treatments that doctors should avoid when treating older adults.

Hartford grantee the American Geriatrics Society and Beeson scholar Dr. Sei Lee of the University of California, San Francisco, were recently highlighted in Paula Span’s The New Old Age Blog for their work in developing a list of common treatments that doctors should avoid when treating older adults. Last year, AGS released its first list of "Five Things" that health care providers and patients should question, and just published its second list. Dr. Lee, is a member of the panel that developed both lists.

Among the treatments on the list that should be questioned, Dr. Lee said, these aren’t things that should never happen. “They’re things that may be appropriate rarely but are being done frequently,” he said, “things that are commonplace and should be much, much less common.”
