Grantee Dr. Marilyn Luptak Receives National Leadership Award from AGESW

Dr. Marilyn Luptak, an associate professor at the University of Utah School of Social Work was recently selected for an award by the Association for Gerontological Education in Social Work (AGESW) to receive its 2015 Leadership Award. This prestigious national award recognizes a distinguished social work scholar who has made outstanding contributions to the field of aging through research, teaching and scholarship. Dr. Luptak was a John A. Hartford Faculty Scholar from 2008-2010 as well as a John A. Hartford Doctoral Fellow in Geriatric Social Work from 2001-2003.

Troy Andersen, executive director of the W.D. Goodwill Initiatives on Aging at the U’s College of Social Work and a John A. Hartford grantee as well, nominated Luptak for the honor.

“This award acknowledges not only her tremendous scholarly contribution to the field,” said Andersen, “but also her leadership and mentoring of social work students, including me! Dr. Luptak helps our students develop a genuine love and passion for helping the older adults in our local, national and global communities,” Dr. Anderson said.

Dr. Luptak will be formally presented with the award at the Gerontological Society of America’s 2015 Annual Scientific Meeting in Orlando, Florida in November.
