Here you can find the third installment of our Beyond the Boardroom series, in which we feature a prominent speaker in the field of aging and/or health care. Clifford Ko, MD, MS, Director of Research and Optimal Patient Care for the American College of Surgeons, presented information about his work to improve surgical care of the elderly to our Board of Trustees in September 2011. A former Jahnigen Scholar (2003), Dr. Ko took time out during his stay in New York to record this interview with Senior Program Officer Rachael Watman. The two of them discuss the American College of Surgeons’ National Surgical Quality Improvement Program, known as NSQIP, which Dr. Ko directs.

NSQIP collects data from member hospitals on surgical outcomes for elderly patients, analyzes it, and shares the analysis with the hospitals. With 400 participant hospitals, NSQIP is already improving surgical care of older adults throughout the United States.
