From baccalaureate, advanced practice nursing, master's, and into the PhD and post-doctoral levels, Hartford programs provide opportunities to increase the nation's capacity to create nurses who are well prepared to provide high quality care for older adults in a variety of settings and to improve care through research and in-service training.
Nurses are the largest segment of the health care workforce and play a critical, hands-on role in caring for sick and frail older adults. Nursing excellence can often make all the difference in delivering cost-effective, quality care. It is a powerful component in patient recovery, particularly when patients are sent home after shorter and shorter hospital stays.
These programs were featured in the 2001 Annual Report , and are also described at http://www.geriatricnursing.org, a publication of the nursing initiative's grantees.
The Foundations 2006 annual report featured the work of the $10 million Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing and it's work to create leadership opportunities and advance curriculum on behalf of geriatrics across the country. To view the report please click here.
