Y-USA's Kevin Washington Recognized as Power and Influence Top 50 by The NonProfit Times

Kevin Washington, President and CEO of the YMCA of the USA, was recently recognized by The NonProfit Times as one of the Power and Influence Top 50. The 2016 honorees were selected from a group of roughly 300 top executives.

The publication recognized Mr. Washington for becoming “a force” in the sector in just over a year in the position as President and CEO of YMCA of the USA, and for prioritizing partnerships with national and local organizations and policymakers.

As a grantee of the Foundation, the funding for Y-USA work expands its Diabetes Prevention Program while concentrating on adults over 65, and also develops mechanisms for financial sustainability, including policy changes to include diabetes prevention programs in Medicare reimbursement. In July of this year, Medicare announced that it would be expanding its coverage of the piloted Diabetes Prevention Program. In the prior months leading up to the announcement the Secretary had determined that the program demonstrated the ability to improve the quality of patient care without limiting coverage or benefits. Together, these determinations fulfilled the expansion requirements of Section 1115A of the Social Security Act making DPP the first ever preventive service model certified for expansion from the CMS Innovation Center.
