The National Hartford Centers of Gerontological Nursing Excellence (NHCGNE) and the Hartford Geronto

The National Hartford Centers of Gerontological Nursing Excellence (NHCGNE) and the Hartford Gerontological Nursing Leaders (HGNL) announce the establishment of the NHCGNE / HGNL Innovation Award. The purpose of the award is to highlight the innovative ways in which NHCGNE and HGNL members are advancing the care of older adults and celebrate the impact of these leaders in advancing nursing care for older adults.

The National Hartford Centers of Gerontological Nursing Excellence (NHCGNE) and the Hartford Gerontological Nursing Leaders (HGNL) announce the establishment of the NHCGNE / HGNL Innovation Award. The purpose of the award is to highlight the innovative ways in which NHCGNE and HGNL members are advancing the care of older adults and celebrate the impact of these leaders in advancing nursing care for older adults.

The NHCGNE / HGNL Innovation Award is designed to recognize and celebrate innovative programs and projects that highlight excellence in Gerontological Nursing. The NHCGNE/HGNL Innovation Award will be granted to a member or team of members of HGNL to showcase innovations designed and implemented that positively impact the nursing care of older adults. Nominations for the NHCGNE/HGNL Innovation Award are submitted by self-nomination and require the support of one additional member of NHCGNE or HGNL to confirm the support of the nomination.

Eligibility:

  • Recognizes work completed within the previous 3-year-period (2012 – 2014);
  • Work has been presented at a national conference or is published in a peer-reviewed journal;
  • Work is related to innovation in science, research, education or practice.


Criteria for consideration:

The innovation demonstrates:

  • compelling creativity;
  • a new, unique idea or a variation in an existing concept;
  • a significant impact on the quality of nursing care of older adults;
  • an improvement in healthcare delivery quality, efficiency, or cost effectiveness;
  • collaboration, teamwork, and cooperation between disciplines, institutions, or organizations.


Process of application, selection, and delivery:

  • Nominations will be submitted no later than Friday, September 26, 2014 to the NHCGNE (Attention Michele Duchin mduchin@geron.org, Coordinating Center, The Gerontological Society of America, 1220 L Street NW, Suite 901, Washington, DC 20005) with a one-page application form and a two-page narrative addressing each of the five criteria for consideration;
  • Include a $25 application fee (check made payable to NHCGNE)
  • The NHCGNE will distribute the application package of all nominations and review sheets to the a panel of representatives from the NHCGNE and HGNL Sustainability Committee for review and designation of a single awardee;
  • Awardee will be notified;
  • An engraved plaque and $250 cash award will be presented to the awardee during GSA at the Doris Schwartz annual lecture;
  • The award recipient must be in attendance to receive the award.
