NHCOA

This week, the National Hispanic Council on Aging (NHCOA) released its 2016 State of Hispanic Older Adults: Insights from the Field report. The report was supported by many other organizations and individuals who devote their lives to the wellbeing of older adults. The report focuses on the many challenges that Hispanic Older adults continue to face regarding retirement secuirty, healthy ageing, and access to programs. In a effort to remedy these challenges, the report also focuses on solutions to these many problems faced by the Hispianc older adult community.

In order to produce an accurate report, the National Hispanic Council on Aging carried out an 3 step implementation approach. The first approach was to compile existing literature data on the status of Hispanic older adults. The second step was a series of community forums to garnish solutions provided by Hispanic older adults. Finally, in the last step, NHCOA conducted a national survey to better understand the perceptions of Hispanic older adults, their families and caregivers in reference to the following three areas: key issues impacting them and their communities; their civic engagement on these issues; and the role of community members in the development and implementation of public policies, programs and services that fit the needs of the diverse older adult population locally and nationwide.
