Hartford Foundation Trustees Authorize Two Grants Totaling $3.7M

The John A. Hartford Foundation Trustees approved a $2,068,500, three-year grant to the Partners in Care Foundation in Los Angeles and Elder Services of the Merrimack Valley in Massachusetts to develop two large-scale, prototype networks that link community-based, social service agencies to the health care sector, with the goal of establishing an integrated health care and social services delivery system. The Trustees also awarded a $1.6 million, four-year grant to Paraprofessional Healthcare Institute (PHI), the leading organization working to improve the quality of jobs for direct-care workers. The grant is part of a $9 million “Philanthropic Equity Campaign,” co-led by the F. B. Heron and Hartford Foundations, that aims to more than double PHI’s mission impact.

Winners Announced in Heroes of Geriatric Care Story Contest

Congratulations to William Dale, Elizabeth Parker Garcia, and Chandelle Martel for earning the top prizes in the John A. Hartford Foundation’s Heroes of Geriatric Care Story Contest. Read the winning entries, as well as the stories submitted by all of the finalists, on our special Story Contest web page. Also, read John Beilenson’s Health AGEnda blog post about the contest.

We’d like to thank all 92 of the storytellers who submitted entries. It was difficult to choose, but our criteria were clear. We looked for stories featuring health care professionals with specific geriatrics expertise or training, exemplification of excellent geriatric care, and a compelling, well-constructed story that captured our imaginations and hearts. We hope these stories engage, inspire, and inform you and your work as much as they have ours.

Communications Tip:
Better Slides, Better Presentations…Better Communication

Is developing an engaging presentation a challenge? Do you struggle to tell an exciting story about your research and connect with your audience? Be honest, are your slides dominated by bulleted lists and a few graphs or charts? Too often, our presentations in academic, scientific, or even community settings fail to engage our audience and communicate clearly.

Join us on Wednesday, June 19, from 3-4:30 p.m. ET for Better Slides, Better Presentations…Better Communication, the latest in our Build Your Bandwidth Communications webinar series. This workshop will help you craft powerful talks, educate and inspire people you care about (colleagues, mentors, and others), and develop dynamic, visually appealing slides that bring your important work to life.

You can register online. For questions, email Chris Gherst at SCP: cgherst@aboutscp.com.
