Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Program National Coordinating Center

Grant Summary

This grant will leverage federal funding from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to support the development of a workforce that can improve health outcomes for older adults by integrating geriatrics with primary care. The 44 sites selected to participate in the new HRSA Geriatric Workforce Enhancement Program (GWEP) are partnerships between educational institutions and other clinical systems, which aim to transform how care is delivered with a strong emphasis on interprofessional teams and patient and family engagement. With John A. Hartford Foundation funding, the American Geriatrics Society will create a National Coordinating Center to support the GWEP sites’ efforts. The Coordinating Center will facilitate collaborative learning, offer resources on geriatric education, provide mentoring with geriatrics experts, and conduct a national process evaluation to inform future federal programming.
